Made your plans yet to attend the LOS CAZADORES AWARDS? If not please consider this a personal invitation to attend our 2007 Hunting Season LOS CAZADORES AWARDS this year held at our Los Cazadores Hunting Headquarters at 490 South IH 35, Pearsall, Texas!
As you're aware in the past we held our annual awards normally in May in San Antonio at the Freeman Coliseum. We had great Award programs there and lots of fun as well. And in some ways we missed not having the Awards in May and in San Antonio. But, throughout the past fall we asked many of our entrants when they preferred to have the Awards and where. Most we asked replied they would rather see the Los Cazadores Awards held later in the year, so it would not conflict with graduation, little league baseball, and similar events. They also replied they would just as soon see the Awards return to an informal event such as what Darwin Avant had done for years in Cotulla. We took those suggestions in to considerataion. Then about the same time we decided to add on to our store to accomodate more space for merchanize but also more room to hang mounts, paintings and the like...plus we wanted to add some personal touches such as an inviting fireplace to gather around during the fall...even when the weather was relatively warm. So plans were laid and next thing you know we decided to add about 5,000 square feet of more room to the Los Cazadores Hunting Headquarters.
The big plan was and is to have it all completed by the time of the Los Cazadores Awards which will take place on July 19th. As this is being written we are nearly completed with our project. We think you will be pleased with what you'll see, starting with the front door. Once inside you'll notice numerous changes as well. Don't want to spoil the surprises for you... but I think and we hope you'll be impressed.
The Los Cazadores Awards day will start with when the store opens at 9:00 am on Saturday the 19th of July. As in the past we're asking all awardees to bring their mounts or racks to be displayed at the Awards. As in the past thanks to those who receive Los Cazadores Awards Jackets and other awards who bring their mounts and rack to the Awards we should have the finest display of big Texas and Mexico (and this year even some out-of-state bucks thanks to our new North American Los Cazadores Deer Contest) ever assembled... Remember the many huge bucks taken in 2007? Just wait to till you see the display at the Los Cazadores Awards!
During the Awards day we'll have activities going, including a whole lot of visiting and looking at big deer. We're scheduled to have Jerry Baker, an official Boone & Crockett record book scorer on hand to score your deer,or for that matter any of the other North American Big Game animals for the Boone & Crockett record book, all-time and 2-year.
Now I know many of our readers and hunters are also interested in Indian artifacts. I surely am! Have you ever wandered exactly how they made their flint tools like arrow heads, spear heads and knives? Thought so! For that reason we've asked Albert Dugosh to do a little flint knapping the day of the Los Cazadores Awards to show us how he makes these extremely beautiful pieces of art. You've seen some of his artistry at the Los Cazadores store, now you can watch him make them.
Through the graciousness of the Texas Wildlife Association we'll have the David Brimager on hand with the Dart Shooting System, fun not only for kids, but also adults. Here's a chance to see just how good of a shooter you really are.
If that weren't enough throughout the day we'll have Daniel Adami on hand to strum his guitar and sing a few songs. Those of you who are not familiar with Daniel Adami's music are truly in for a treat. Not only can this guy write a fabulous song, he can sing one as well! Daniel with his guitar and his "fiddle-man" will be on hand to entertain all throughout different times of the day.
Scheduled to be on hand as well will be Don Keller, whitetail artist extraordinnaire.
Plan on showing up early and spending the day.. Food will be available starting at lunch, prepared by several of Pearsall's service organizations.
We'll have a few surprises throughout the day. No telling who might show up to tell a hunting story or two.
Plan on coming to the Awards early and staying late! Please check the website regarding when to bring your mount or rack, exact times for Awards, when Awards jackets can be picked up and other pertinent information.
We hope you'll attend. We also think you'll be glad you did!
Switching horse a bit...during the early June I had the opportunity to essentially spend a day with Senator John McCain just outside of Washington, DC. The primary purpose of the day was to do an interview with Senator McCain for my upcoming new television show, "Winchester's World of Whitetails with Larry Weishuhn" which will debut in Versus Country (previously OLN) in August. As we get closer I'll let you know exact times and dates...may also add a new feature to our www.loscazadores.com website that deals more directly with the show.
I have to tell you, I was truly impressed with Senator McCain's frankness and common sense approach to any and all questions I asked of him. Of course one of the things we discussed was Senator McCain's stand on guns and hunting. In a special edition of this column a bit later, I'll give you specific quotes...but suffice it to say right here... Senator McCain is not only pro-gun but also pro-hunting. This is quite the opposite of his opponent who has been endorsed by several anti-gun and anti-hunting organizations. All I'll say at this point is, if you love hunting and the hunting/outdoor/wildlife management way of life as we know it...you had better vote for Senator McCain for President and encourage all the other people you know to do likewise. If you don't we may well lose the many we hold dear!
We truly hope you'll join us at the Los Cazadores Awards on July 19th....See you there!
